Day 3: Daku Resort?

Day 3- Daku resort? (not so much) We prolonged our departure as long as we could. We took advantage of the outdoor bed as amy enjoyed a cup of coffee. We got all our things packed and had an amazing breakfast once again made by Sarita. We love her. The mueslix truly is amazing and we told Kasper they should be marketing it. We said our goodbyes, rather see you laters, as we would be back in a week, and made our way down the hill with Clyde, the boys, Sharon, and Kasper. We were dropped off at Daku resort and immediately disappointed with the place but it would do as a stopping point. They truly did not have the was same standards as Naveria Heights and was just all around lacking. The best part of this "resort" has to be Kenny the cat. Actually his name is not Kenny but Anna and he is a she. A little miscommunication turned into a cute little "cat"necction. We would sing Kenny and the cats as he walked us to our room, sat on our porch, or hung by the pool. Kenny paid us more attention than anyone on staff. Since there was no beach and nothing really to do at the "resort" (i mean seriously- what is the criteria for a resort-can anyone say it?) we decided to walk to town and rent a kayak. Picked one up without a problem and headed out on our "sand" venture. We paddled through the harbor stopping by to say hi to Dave and continued our trek. Tried going in a mangrove but was asked to turn around by a local fisherman. Stopped at some mangroves and gave our masks a whirl. Nothing to see but they checked out. That pit stop may have cost us our passage around the island. We soon ran aground on some sand bars as the tide had gone out. Georgeann got out and pulled us through the blockade and we returned the way we had come. We then found a little area to put the kayak with some creative rigging by Amy. Did some snorkeling minus the fins and snorkel, just a mask and some flip flops to protect us from the coral. Saw some cool blue starfish and a seahorse as well as some varied tropical fish. We had our fill and made our way back maneuvering as best as we could around a young sailing school. Of course the day wouldn't be complete without a celebratory Fiji gold and our apps at the Savusavu yacht club. We took a cab back to the hotel and got ourselves presentable for round 2 in town. We took in a sunset as we waited for our cab. The Copra shed yacht club was in full effect. We ran into Dave and Chris and met some new folks, a couple from Vancouver and one from Serbia. Everyone shared some of the their tales from the sea and we thought to ourselves the life of a "cruiser" sounds amazing but also some hard work thrown in there. We had dinner with Chris and Dave at Joseph's cafe and were serenaded by a local band playing old classics and men enjoying some of the traditional kava. An interesting site to say the least. All the local tables were single sex- no mingling- interesting.... Watching the staff take kava breaks was like watching a Stevie Nicks concert with her many "wardrobe" changes. The food was nothing special and we called it a night. One more cab ride back to our digs.
